Vision
Featherstone Elementary students are responsible learners who believe in their abilities to succeed and are excited to grow. Featherstone’s curriculum encourages innovation, risk-taking, excitement for learning, and personal growth in a trusting relationship. Our comprehensive school counseling program supports all students and fosters partnerships between students, staff, families, and community members to eliminate achievement gaps and ensure all students reach their fullest potential.
Mission
The mission of the Featherstone Elementary School Counseling Program is to promote all students’ social, emotional, and academic/career success through a comprehensive data-driven program. Our program provides a safe, respectful, accessible, and equitable school environment. The Featherstone school counselors are dedicated to partnering with stakeholders, and families to deliver evidence-based support and empower student growth and build lifelong skills for learning.
What does a school counselor do?
- Core Curriculum – Evaluate School and student data and outcomes; develop core curriculum to address desired student competencies; and deliver curriculum systematically through classroom lessons in cooperation with classroom teachers.
- Individual Student Planning – Help students evaluate their own interests and abilities, and skills; help students develop personal goals; and help students plan goals for their future.
- Responsive Services – Individual counseling, small group counseling, and crisis response services.
- Indirect Services – Make referrals for outside counseling or assistance, consult with parents and teachers to share effective strategies that support students, and collaborate with parents, professionals, and community members to support student success.
