Reading Makes Cents

Dear Featherstone Families:

Featherstone is participating in Reading Makes Cents, a statewide reading program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. April is National Financial Literacy Month. This month students will learn financial concepts such as the value of working to earn money, the importance of saving, the idea of prioritizing wants, and being good decision-makers. Our school earned 3 free books for our library for the lessons. If our school has the highest student participation rate within our region at the due date, we will earn an additional $500 worth of books for our library.

  1. To participate: Your child needs to read books from the Reading Challenge form reading list provided on the last page. Students can read

    1. 5 books from the list independently.

    2. 5 books from the list with a family member.

    3. 5 books from the list using a YouTube book read along video.

  2. To submit: Your child needs a completed Reading Challenge form, signed by a parent or guardian, they will be entered into a drawing to win one of 14 Invest529 college savings accounts from Virginia529 with an initial balance of $529, to grow year over year. All Reading Challenge form entries are due May 13, 2022.

    1. You can mail the form on your own to the address on the Reading Challenge form by the due date.

    2. You can send the form with your child to school, and they can turn it in to me (Mrs. Almodovar) in the library by May 6, 2022. I will mail the forms.
